    2. Alice May GROAT, who was born May 26, 1865, and died April 12, 1867, is buried in the churchyard of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Copake, Columbia County, NY. She appears to be the daughter of William Groat (280) and Rebecca Gibbs, with whom she is buried.

    3. Alfred O. GROAT, the son of Charles Groat (286) and Cecelia Rogers, was born November 20, 1875, and christened January 29, 1876, at the Reformed Church of Mellenville. He died at the age of 6 years, 5 months, and 13 days, January 29, 1876, and is buried in Union Cemetery, Mellenville, Columbia County, New York.

    4. Mattie GROAT was the daughter of Joseph Silos Groat (289) and Melissa Emeline Emery. No further information is currently available.

    1. Clara Maude GROAT was the daughter of Frank Martinus Groat (291) and Clara M. Dolley (Polley?). No further information is currently available.

    2. Frank Roy GROAT, the son of Frank Martinus Groat (291) and Clara M. Dolly (Polley?), was born June 26, 1892, at Aitkin, Minnesota. He lived in Montana and Idaho, where he was employed in the timber industry. At Sandpoint, Idaho, May 24, 1913, he married Esta Leona Hood, born August 27, 1897, at Central Point, Jackson County, Oregon. He then lived in Oregon, where he was a carpenter. During the depression he sold Singer sewing machines, cut lumber, and drove an oil truck. They (Frank and Esta) were active in the Church of God and they were registered Democrats. Esta worked for many years as a nurse’s aide. In addition to their six children, they were foster parents to several others. Frank died at the age of 84, April 10, 1977, at Salem, Oregon. Esta then married Leon Briles at Salem, Oregon. They had six children.

    13. Andrew Jackson GROAT, Jr., the son of Andrew Jackson Groat (315) and Nancy Ellen Irwin, was born March 18, 1874, at Cuppy's Grove, Iowa. On December 20, 1904, probably in Shelby County, Iowa, he married Myrtle A. Brenner, born New Years day, 1880, at Council Bluffs, Iowa. They had two children.

    4. Archibald Edward GROAT, the son of Lorin H. Groat (328) and Mary E. Templar, was born May 22, 1876, at Oneonta, NY. On May 20, 1900, he married Mary Elizabeth Butts, born May 12, 1874, at Davenport, Delaware County, NY. She died September 1, 1912, and he then married Carrie Belle Brewer, born April 23, 1878, at Bloomville, Delaware County, NY. A. Edward served in the Philippines during the Spanish American War. The Oneonta Daily Star, December 26. 1898. carried a story of the return of the boys from Hawaii, in which he is mentioned. He was foreman of the plumbing unit of D and H Railroad, in Oneonta, NY. He left the D and H, at one time, and worked for a while at General Electric Company, in Schenectady, NY., but returned and remained with the D and H until retiring at age 65. Carrie died in 1957, and Archy died November 10, 1959. They are buried in the family plot with Archy's parents and grandparents.

    1. William Henry GROAT, the son of Francis Marion Groat (338) and Jennie M. Butman, was born at LaValle Sauk County, Wisconsin February 5, 1880. He died at the age of 18, December 26, 1898, of an accidental gunshot wound.

    2. Francis Marion GROAT, Jr., the son of Francis Marion Groat (338) and Jennie M. Butman, was born at LaValle, Sauk County, Wisconsin, September 12, 1882. On April 3, 1909, he married Alma Corscadden, the daughter of John Corscadden and Caroline (Carrie) Eder, born July 13, 1885, at Copp, South Dakota. The 1910 Federal Census of LaValle lists him as a horse farmer, age 27, and his wife, age 24. He was later a walnut farmer in Whittler, California. Francis Marion died August 4, 1948, at the age of 65 years, 11 months. His wife survived him by nearly 20 years and died June 21, 1968, at the age of 82 years and 11 months. They had 2 sons.

    1. Mary GROAT, the daughter of Francis Marion Groat (338) and Jennie M. Butman, was born September 9, 1884, at LaValle, Sauk County, Wisconsin. She married John Thomas Tibbett, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, September 9, 1908, and they had two children. Her husband drowned, October 14, 1917, and she survived him by 54 years and died October 24, 1971. It appears that Mary remarried, since she is buried as "Mary Groat Tibbett Jones."

    2. Edmund Tordoff GROAT, the son of Francis Marion Groat (338) and Jane Elizabeth Tordoff, was born February 2, 1900, at LaValle, Sauk County, Wisconsin. He graduated from Whittier High School and California Institute of Technology, Whittier, California. On September 23, 1924, at Pasadena, California, he married Margaret Ella Sears, born December 6, 1904. He retired from General Electric Corporation, in Chicago, and died February 28, 1965. They had four children.

    1. Frederick Jeremiah GROAT, the son of Francis Marion Groat (338) and Jane Elizabeth Tordoff, was born February 26, 1902, at LaValle, Sauk County, Wisconsin. He graduated from California Institute of Technology and, on December 27, 1930, at Pasadena, California, he married Margurite Sorenson, born March 2, 1907. He worked for the State of California and is now retired. They had two children.

    1. Jessie Avery GROAT, the daughter of William Robert Groat (363) and Elizabeth Morgan Avery, was born in 1874. She married Roy Spencer Richardson.

    2. William Avery GROAT, the son of William Robert Groat (363) and Elizabeth Morgan Avery, was born at Canastota New York, November 9, 1876. At Syracuse, October 2, 1901, he married Nellie Nichols Bacon, the daughter of Francis E. Bacon, born Fulton, NY., October 23, 1877. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Syracuse in 1897, and went on the become a doctor (1900). He had a private practice in Syracuse in 1901. He was a member of the faculty of the University of Syracuse College of Medicine in 1902 and was a professor of clinical pathology in 1911. He was Captain (later Major) in the Army Medical Corps during World War I and was later a Lieutenant Colonel in the Medical Officers Reserve. For a time William and his wife lived at 106 Rugby Road, Syracuse. He died at Syracuse in 1945, and his wife died in 1962, also at Syracuse. They had three children.

    1. Lucy Mitchell GROAT, the daughter of Benjamin Feland Groat (385) and Harriet Grace Mitchell, was born November 29, 1909, at Ogdensburg, NY. Lucy earned her bachelor of arts degree at A. B. Smith College in 1930 and her master of science degree at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1932. On September 15, 1934, she married George Ashmun Morton, the son of Walter Heddon Morton and Laura Mansavage Johnson. George Ashmun Morton was a descendant of President John Adams and Abigail Smith. They had four children.

    1. Richard Lovejoy GROAT, the son of Charles Lovejoy Groat (390) and Caroline W. Yager, was born February 9, 1891, probably at Philadelphia. He died October 17, 1906, at home 6158 Ridge Avenue, Roxborough, Philadelphia), at the age of 15. The record of his death lists his occupation as that of cashboy (in the bakery operated by his parents). Cause of death is listed as endocarditus, from which he suffered over a year, with Nephritus (2 days) as a contributing factor. He was buried in Leverington Cemetery, Philadelphia, October 20, 1906, the undertaker being Fraust S. Whitman

    2. Mary E. GROAT, the daughter of Charles Lovejoy Groat (390) and Caroline W. Yager, was born in 1894, in Philadelphia. The Philadelphia City Directories for the years 1924 through 1929 list her as a clerk for the American Railway Express Company, living at home at 4454 Dexter Street in Manayunk. She died in Philadelphia, February 5, 1961, and was buried in Leverington cemetery with her parents, her brother and sisters.

    3. Edith GROAT, the daughter of Charles Lovejoy Groat (390) and Caroline W. Yager, was born in 1897, in Philadelphia. She married _______ Dunlop, prior to 1929. The 1929 Philadelphia City Directory shows her living at 519 Seville Street, in Roxborough. She died in Philadelphia, February 24, 1931, and was buried in Leverington cemetery with her parents, her brother and her sisters.

    4. Ruth Mildred GROAT, the daughter of Charles Lovejoy Groat (390) and Caroline W. Yager, was born, January 6, 1900, in Philadelphia. Ruth is listed as a stenographer, living at home at 4454 Dexter Street in Manayunk, in the 1929 Philadelphia City Directory. She worked for many years in the civil service. She died in Philadelphia, February 9, 1981, and was buried in Leverington cemetery with her parents, her brother and sisters..

    1. Raymond Boyd GROAT, the son of Charles Lovejoy Groat (390) and Caroline W. Yager, was born, February 9, 1902, in Philadelphia. He married Dorothy Melvina Mower. Boyd R. is listed in the 1929 Philadelphia City Directory living at home at 4454 Dexter Street in Manayunk, employed at the accounting firm of Lybrand Ross Brothers and Montgomery. In the 1935 and 1936 City Directories he is listed at 6310 Brows Avenue in Frankford. He remained employed at Lybrand Ross until about 1938 or 1939. He was then employed for the remainder of his life as an accountant at the American Baptist Publishing Society. Boyd and Dot had 2 children. They moved to Mt. Ephriam, Camden County, New Jersey, around 1942. For many years Boyd served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Mt. Ephriam Board of Education - In fact, he would have preferred that position for full time employment had he been able to earn a living at it. They are buried in Harleigh Cemetery, Camden, New Jersey.

    1. Gladys GROAT, the daughter of Charles Lovejoy Groat (390) and Caroline W. Yager, was born in 1906, in Philadelphia. She died in Philadelphia, May 2, 1961, and was buried in Leverington cemetery with her parents, her brother and sisters.

    2. James Dunwell GROAT, the son of Charles Lovejoy Groat (390) and Caroline W. Yager was born in Philadelphia, September 2, 1907. On April 23, 1930, he married Margaret (Peggy) Hammer, the daughter of Samuel E. Hammer and Anna Whitehead, born April 16, 1910, in Philadelphia. They moved to the suburbs of Camden, NJ, around 1936. He served in the Army during World War II. He died October 28, 1968, in Camden, NJ, and after funeral services at Gardner Funeral Home in Runnemede, he was buried at Harleigh Cemetery in Camden, October 31, 1968. His wife Peggy, died December 8, 1981, and, after funeral services at Rilatt Funeral Home in Barrington, she was buried with him, December 11, 1981. They had 3 children.

    3. William Smith GROAT, the son of Frank A. Groat (397) and Emma E. Van Deusen, was born April 18, 1880, at Pembroke, Batavia, NY. He married Ida Mae Leason, the daughter of John Leason (a Civil War Veteran). William Smith Groat died April 7, 1934, and is buried in North Tonawanda, NY.

    1. Frank D. GROAT, the son of Frank A. Groat (397) and Emma E. Van Deusen, was born, July 14, 1883, at Rochester, NY. and christened at Trinity Lutheran Church. On March 11, 1909, he married Augusta Schwing, born in Rochester, March 7, 1884, and christened at Trinity Lutheran Church. He died May 21, 1944, and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Rochester. His wife, surviving him by 36 years, died June 21, 1980, and was buried with him. They had five children.

    2. Lura GROAT, the daughter of Frank A. Groat (397) and Emma E. Van Deusen, was born at Rochester, NY. She married David O'Mailley. No further information available.
